| Landmark | Distance / direction | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Dubrovnik Old Town | East, across the water | The walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 |
| Lokrum | About 600 m offshore | A protected nature reserve with 11th-century monastery ruins |
| Elaphiti Islands | North-west, along the coast | The island chain the sun sets behind on a clear evening |
A republic that traded on the sea
The Old Town visible across the water from Babin Kuk was the centre of the Republic of Ragusa, a free maritime state that governed itself from the 14th to the 19th century and grew wealthy on seaborne trade through the 15th and 16th centuries — UNESCO inscribed the Old City as a World Heritage Site in 1979.
Lokrum, close enough to see clearly
About 600 metres off the coast, Lokrum has been a protected nature reserve since 1948 — one of the oldest in Croatia — left otherwise uninhabited apart from the ruins of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery and a small salt lake known locally as the Dead Sea.
The Elaphiti Islands at sunset
The operator's own description of the Sunset Dinner has the sun setting behind the Elaphiti Islands, the scattered chain running north-west along the Dalmatian coast — the reason the sitting is timed to the evening rather than a fixed clock hour.
Babin Kuk's own view
The crane itself stands on Babin Kuk, the resort peninsula west of the walled city, so the view looks back across the water toward the Old Town rather than over it — a different vantage from any rooftop inside the walls.
A platform that turns
Because the platform rotates through the sitting, no single seat is locked facing one direction — everyone at the table gets a turn looking toward the Old Town, Lokrum and the open sea as the ninety minutes goes on.
Best seen on a clear evening
Since the whole point of the sitting is the view and the sunset, a clear evening makes the most of it — the same wind and weather that can ground the platform are the things worth checking before you travel.
